Archives #1: space

I was intrigued by the idea of space in the Wimmera as contrasted to particular places, such as the rural towns. At the time I’d assumed that the relationship between space (location) and place (human dwelling) was one of opposites. What caught my eye was the built railway line in this space.

It intrigued me. The humble railway holds or gathers everything (sky, land, railway crossing, silo, trees) together. It situates this space. There is a purpose to this built and bounded space. It is been built to collect and transport wheat grown on the surrounding farms. People would work at the silo. This space is a locale.

So space is not empty as I’d assumed.
