Gary, Encounter Bay, South Australia

Gary Sauer-Thompson  is a photographer,  blogger and curator  based at Victor Harbor on the southern coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia. He has an M.Com from Canterbury University in Christchurch, New Zealand, and a PhD (in philosophy) from Flinders University of South Australia in Adelaide, South Australia.

Gary has published two books on photography with Adam Dutkiewciz for Moon Arrow Press in Adelaide, namely,   Abstract Photography: Re-evaluating Visual Poetics in Australian Modernism and Contemporary Practice, (2016) and Adelaide Art Photographers 1970-2000 (2019).

He has published 2 limited editions photobooks as part of the Mallee Routes section (2017-2019) of the Photographing the Mallee project: Mallee Routes: Photographing the Mallee 2018 and Mallee Routes: Photographing the Mallee 2019.

He is currently working on  The Bowden Archives and Other Marginalia, which is based on photos from his 1970-2000 archives; and The Long Road to the North based on camel treks in the northern Flinders Ranges
