I am planning to go on  a photocamp at  Wentworth and the lower Darling River  next Thursday (25th of April) for the Mallee Routes <\/a>project. I want to travel slowly to Wentworth as I need to spend time in the Wimmera Mallee region, retracing my steps from an earlier exploration. <\/a> I will probably stay over night at Murtoa or Donald before going onto Wentworth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My plan in the Wimmera is very dependant on the weather, but I hope to photo the Yarriambiak Creek <\/a>near Murtoa, the silos<\/a> in the landscape at Jung in the early morning; then some old machinery at Donald in the afternoon. These sites had been previously scoped when I made a detour <\/a>on the trip to Melbourne. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wentworth photocamp will allow me to  explore the lower  Darling River, to see if I can make any photos for my climate change contribution<\/a> to the unknown futures section <\/a>of the upcoming 2019 exhibition at the Murray Bridge Regional gallery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Darling is now in dire straits,<\/a> due to the massive  increased water use upstream, <\/a> bad water management<\/a>, water theft<\/a> and corruption.<\/a>  The result is that the Darling River is no longer a healthy river system. <\/a> The Menindee Lakes <\/a>are dry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am not sure how far I need to travel north along the Silver City Highway to come across the Darling’s dry river bed; nor am I even sure whether I can gain access to the river at these locations. From memory most of the Darling River, on both sides, along the Silver City Highway is enclosed by private property. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One option may be to access the Great Darling Anabranch<\/a> where the Renmark Rd to the Rufus River crosses it. As I want to photograph around Rufus River for the Our Waters project, <\/a>this may be my best option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the backwash from the River Murray may well go past this part of the Darling Anabranch, and so I may have to find a location that is further upstream if I want a photograph of a dry river bed to indicate the future of the Lower Darling region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
